Welcome to the Sol Duc River near Forks, Washington.  We are on mission to complete a show here started last February.  The swinging was tough today, but we were able to nymph up a beautiful dime bright 8 pound hen! As the day closed it was fish on!  At the launch we found out that those using bait in the boats in front of us landed 7 fish!  BAIT!   ah #$%^%##@#$!!!!!    Its off to the Hoh River tomorrow check back in for an update.  Greg

  3. You’ve come a long way, Heister! Good work on the show, I’ll have to find Versus near me so I can watch. I know this is your ‘professional’ blog so I won’t tell embarassing stories about you as a kid, like that time you, Gordy and me went to…

  4. Great choice of untamed rivers and well done on the pace and quality of the experience to watch and feel like your there.
PLEASE HAVE YOUR PEOPLE READ UP ON THE EFFECTS OF FIGHTING ANY SALMO GENUS TO EXHAUSTION. And did you know……..

About 1/4 die and to fully recover it takes a trout about an hour for every minute to resume it’s normal metabolism it had before it was hooked.
Also your handling of fish the way you continue to to removes slime and causes disease and contamination of the trout with sun lotion, dirt, line dressing chemicals. Please consider this if you want seasoned fisherman to continue to watch this same event over and over in you videos.

Why not display tanks for the young anglers to really see the beauty of a brown, or rainbow. They are plexiglass and can be gently lifted for a few seconds then lowered back into the water without even touching the fish . Use a hemostat to release the fly first.

  5. Hi…You have to go back to the Sol Duc and Hoh rivers…Best fishing since the 1980’s…18 drift boats were checked and they had caught and released over 115 Steel head….This kind of numbers is still going on….The upper Sol Duc has been the best. The Hoh River is fantastic….I fished from the beach with an 8wt switchrod from Batson. using a fly that I used on the Dean river in Canada. It looks like a Madison Special or Babine special #4 hook and 2 pink 10mm eggs seperated with white feathers… The way the Steelhead are biting I assume that anything would work. They bite like summerruns and I think that they will continue to be in the rivers for another month or so…..Check out “http:nwwildcountry.com” They can get you to the right spots. They are the best show on fishing in Seattle Wa. They come on every Saturday morning for 2 hours on Comcast or on KJR radio. You gotta try out this Northwestern Washington Olympic Penninsula Coastal fishery. BTW… I watch your show every week and it’s the best!
Good luck and tight lines, Steve

  15. Love the show – your passion for fly fishing really resonates! Hope you’re able to get Few out again. I keep thinking back to your show on the Methow for Steelies. I’ve driven up that river from Pateros many times not thinking that I should be stopping to flip a fly or two around.
Go Zags! Here’s to another good year of fishing and basketball!
