  1. Fantastic Show! The best I have seen since the days of American Outdoorsman. A great host and narrator, fantastic cinematography all the while capturing the true essence of the fly fishing experience including the surroundings, the history, the wildlife and the friendships made.

A true work of art. You have raised the bar on fly fishing shows. Keep up the great work.

Wow I just watched my first program, Grande Rhonde. I really enjoyed it. I am 66 years old and have been paying for a reckless life as a lineman and reserve cop both careers running more than 30 years at the same time.

I get to do a little fly fishing now and then when I am up to it around the Phoenix area. I may never be able to go to the wonderful places you go to, but you bring them right up to my lazyboy.

You film them just as I would have lived them with the history, scenery and wild life just as I would have looked for if I were there.

The fly recipes are a added bonus, I now have more flies than I will ever use and poor as they are, most kids and inexperienced fisherperson seem to like receiving them as the price is right.

I tie more than I will ever use but they are nice dreams as is your programs. Keep going to the great places and we will live them over your shoulder.

    Thanks again

    JK

  5. Great show, I watch it religiously every Sunday in Juneau, AK. I’ve learned to tie flies by watching your fly recipe videos. Also, nice diversity of fly fishing techniques between the northwest states. I’m waiting for your online shop to open! Press on.

  7. Hi Greg,
I love Seasons on the Fly. Best fishing show ever! The cinematography is really awesome. You really put pride into your work! Thanks for posting the fly recipes. I plan on tying a few “Franks” and trying them here in Michigan. We have an incredible Steelhead fishery here. I’ve caught at least 20 Skamamia’s this month all in the 10-12lb range. What an incredible thrill! I hope to fish the Situk River someday. Anyway, thanks for fueling my fly fishing addiction…

  8. Hello Greg,
Love the show! I have been looking for a hobby again. I use to Fly Fish when I was younger and thank’s to your show I now have the bug (yuck, yuck) again! I am looking forward to catching up an all of your shows. Any chance of you doing any shows in or around the Portland suburb area’s?

  9. Love the show guys, I live in Royal City, in Eastern Wa, and when I saw the Spring Creeks episode I nearly died. It looks just like my backyard. I fish the Yakima on a weekly basis, and fish the bass lakes all around my home. Love the show, it is about time somebody did a fly fishing show that was done right! And the website is just as good. Love the tying section. If anyone wants to point me in the direction of a good spring creek that is not Rocky Ford, that is in my area, let me know. Watch For That Subtle Take!

  10. I have been watching the show for some months now and every episode leaves me inspired, itching to throw a fly or two, and definately a bit jealous. I live in boise Idaho and am surrounded by some beautiful scenery and great fishing. I am an old grad of coach Few’s Basketball camps and have met you a time or two as a teenager, had i known you were a fisherman I probably would of picked your brain a lot more than just the back door on a low post. Have you ever thought about some of our high mountain lakes? Great cutties, and most all of them are dumb, but the scenery and areas cant be beat!! You have a loyal fan and i cannot wait to see what else you come up with. Thanks for the great shows and fish of a lifetime Greg.. Hope to see you back in are neck of the woods!!

  11. Best fishing show on TV – bar none! I’m saving all of the episodes on my DVR so I can go back and watch them anytime for an inspiration. Love the website as well – especially the video fly tying recipes. Have you considered adding some instructional videos on casting, mending, etc? Eagerly awaiting the next episode on Versus HD.

  13. Greg excellent program. A show that is a hundred percent better than any other show on the circuit today. A guides show for guides. Every shot is as though you are there. A show a beginning fly fisher can enjoy and learn.

    Comment by Dan Curtis — September 20, 2009 @ 1:27 pm

  14. Love your show. Wondering if you ever go fly fishing with any women? The same group of cronies keep showing up show after show, and while they catch awesome fish (and that’s really great!), I feel like I’m watching home buddy movies sometimes (with voice-over and dramatic music). Maybe you could mix it up and feature a woman fly fisher-person once in a while.

This is a great sport for all ages and I think your show should reflect that. I’ve just started and I’m going to be 58 this year. It’s something I can still do with two artificial knees and arthritis. It’s fun, beautiful, and (once I learn the proper way to hook the dang fish), rewarding, and peaceful. Waiting to see where you go next …

  23. Wow the cinematography, the post production mixing, the editing yeah this totally kicks ass!!! But anyway as i just randomly read the reviews, there was someone quoting about fishing with a lady! well how bout doing a feature on the yuba which is a self sustained non stocked no hatchery river which thrives full of bows, steelies and kings. Or how bout the upper sacramento river in redding ca. which almost had all of its trout population wiped out when a train carrying some hazardous liquid wrecked and the car carrying the liquid went into the river!. But now!!!! Its been totally revived and its off the hook!! theres more wild native trout then hatchery!! But anyway just a few places to recommend and since youd be in the neighborhood! what about stopping by and saying hi to the powell’s?? and well HEY!!!! their ya go I know the wife can throw flies just as good if not better then the husband of powell fly rods and she could be a feature! ANYWAY i could keep rambling on with ideas for the show But the storm has passed and its been 24 hours now and the sun just peaked!!! So hey Im off to the feather for some steelie action!!!! Oh yeah I didnt get to finish going through your recipes but if you have any popcicles or marabou’s or carabous Please POST THEM!!!!! totally need them!!! but if posted already sorry! like i said i didnt get to finish the recipe section!! ne way g2g have to get on the river while the sun is still out!!!!!

  24. Nice show! Although, you probably should leave the name of some of the streams that you fish off the mainstream radar. I Truly believe the name of the JJ Special derived from The Oxford cafe in Missoula, MT. The color of the fly is very similar to the “JJ Special Sauce” you can order on top of the chicken fried steak. The dish is legendary in Missoula along w/ their brains and eggs. I highly reccomend the place and it is open 24 hours, great for early rise anglers and hunters. Compare the Oxford to the M&M cafe in Butte MT.

I go down to the creek where I live and catch bluegill, sunfish, really big minnows, babybass, and a few others. Practice for the rainbow when i get a chance to go to the white river by my grandfathers house and the bear river down by and in Arkansas. Thank you for making a web site this awsome.

  30. I ‘ve seen you show for the first time and had to go to your website, I am just after all these years getting into fly fishing I love the fly recipes it makes tying so much simpler when you see it being done even if most of the flies are from the west I sure some can be used in the east like the Thundercreek using different colors. (best website ever)

  31. Best show to date, for the fly fisher outstanding website to boot still learning the art of fly fishing every day and this show has the best in HD fishing, come to Okanogan to Lake Chopka the states best fly fishing lake. Keep up the great work, an keep those how to ty flies coming.

  32. Wonderful show, love the website. How about doing a show or two for some of us beginners out here? I’m talking everything from attaching the line to the reel, knots involved, casting techniques, including reeling in the big one! Your fly recipes provided great motivation for me to get back in to tying like I did with my son when he was smaller. Also if you provide a method to upload some of our finished products, we could share our winners/and losers.

  35. Well, I guess Greg ran out of water or sponsors or interest in the show because now all that is aired on Versus are repeats of a half dozen shows. I assume that there is a problem between Greg and Versus and until that is ironed out, the viewers and sponsors are stuck with the repeats and that’s too bad for the best fly-fishing series on TV.

This series is great because we are not beat up with a bunch of basic fly-fishing how-tos but instead given a solid presentation how great sport this really is and a superb description and history of each divinely inspired arena that it’s played in. Not that we all couldn’t use a how-to now and then, but save them for a beginners show. Instead, let’s keep this show, our show, for the folks that have or will have lived many Seasons on the Fly. Good Luck Greg.

  36. Hello Bart –

And Hello all – I appreciate your appetite for more shows. They are coming! I have spent the better part of 2010 shooting shows and searching for sponsors. We have re-signed with Versus for 2011 and season 2 will begin in December. And then the new shows will be dispersed throughout the upcoming year. It is our goal to shoot 15-20 shows a year and of course it will take time to build them. So I appreciate your patience and I hope you enjoy what season 2 has to offer. The 13th of December enjoy some Atlantic Salmon fishing from Iceland and then some trout fishing on Montana’s Missouri River on the 20th. And again I appreciate your viewership. Greg Heister

  41. Great program everyone!
Pretty hard watching the episodes in January in Wisconsin when it is below zero out.
You guys should look at doing a show in the Driftless area of Wisconsin. Wisconsin has over 10,000 miles of trout water loaded with wild brooks, browns, tigers and bows.
This area has really started to get a reputation as a world class fishery. You will have dozens of spring creeks within 30 minutes of Madison, WI. Small and Medium water is the norm.

I recently watched your show “Trout Habitat” that I found on Xfinity on demand. The Smith River and it’s brown trout was very enjoyable but what you where doing for “Casting for a cure” impressed me the most.
